What is ArtDip?
Hi, I’m Sarah, and I’m an artist and writer from south Louisiana living in central Brittany, France. I founded ArtDip because I wanted to find a way to use art to do meaningful work in my community.
Everyone who loves art passionately knows it has value, but sometimes that gets overlooked by people who assume art’s not serious, important, or relevant enough to make a true difference in people’s lives- not like “real” topics like economics, business, or politics. I’m convinced those people are wrong; art can do true good in the world.
I live in an incredible region that’s not short on natural beauty or culture, but suffers from social disintegration and low economic development. Through ArtDip, I can bring artists to the region to participate in residencies, workshops, and exhibitions. As they discover, celebrate, and make art about all the exciting things Brittany has to offer, they are also supporting the local economy by eating at the village restaurant, hiring local caterers and chefs, visiting local businesses, and consuming local products. Through the interactions these artists have with the community, they are helping combat the social isolation and loneliness that has become prevalent in the area, especially among the elderly. Most importantly, ArtDip artists show the local communities that they live in a place to be valued, cherished, and celebrated through art.
And all of this while having an incredible time chasing inspiration and being creative in one of the most beautiful regions of France! It’s a win-win situation, win my opinion. I hope you will agree — or at least come visit to check it out for yourself!
